South West England Area Lead – Rhys Phillips FRSA

Rhys is an undergraduate civil engineering student at the University of Bath sponsored by BAM Nuttall through the Institution of Civil Engineers QUEST Scholarship. Rhys is also a recipient of the Royal Academy of Engineering ‘Engineering Leaders Scholarship’ and was recently made a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts.

Rhys has worked across design and construction in the civil engineering sector, as well as conducting research into the applications of machine learning techniques to natural disaster prevention and mitigation, and has a particular interest in sustainability and how technology can be integrated into the design process to create elegant, economical solutions. Outside of technical engineering Rhys is a passionate advocate of increasing diversity and inclusion in the engineering sector as a STEM Ambassador and academic tutor, as well as volunteering across a number of national and international engineering non-profits.
